Bathroom exhaust is not there for the sole purpose of stopping your mirror from fogging up!

Bathroom ventilation is required to remove moisture and odors from the room and eliminate moisture build-up which could otherwise result in mould and mildew problems.

The Building Code of Australia (BCA) enforces Australian Standard AS 1668.2-2012, which states a minimum extraction capacity of 25 litres per second for residential bathrooms. Although the minimum level is 25 litres per second, a majority of designs are produced requiring a level between 50 and 60 litres per second.

Introduced in 2019, it is now mandatory to exhaust your rangehood to atmosphere.

Kitchen (Rangehood) exhaust removes steam, smoke, and cooking odours from your home as well as removing grease particles that would otherwise build up on your walls and cabinetry.

The Building Code of Australia (BCA) enforces Australian Standard AS 1668.2-2012, which states a minimum extraction capacity of 50 litres per second for residential kitchens. Many designs are produced requiring a level closer to 90 litres per second.

Laundry ventilation is essential and a building requirement where there is no exterior window in the room (such as when the laundry located in the kitchen or bathroom).

The Building Code of Australia (BCA) enforces Australian Standard AS 1668.2-2012, which states a minimum extraction capacity of 40 litres per second for residential laundries where a non-condensing dryer is installed. If a condensing dryer is installed the requirement is 20 litres per second.

Make-up Air needs to be clean and not add a further contaminate load to the enclosure. Outdoor airflow rates may need to be increased to enclosures to ensure an appropriate balance of make-up to exhaust. The standard states that make-up air cannot be taken from an enclosure served by a required exhaust ventilation system (this includes a mechanically ventilated car park, commercial kitchen, swimming pool, etc.).

The Building Code of Australia (BCA) enforces Australian Standard AS 1668.2-2012, requiring make-up air to enter an apartment at a flow rate of no less than 75% and no more than 90% of the exhaust airflow rate.
